Missions

Jesus set for us an example of the kind of love we are to have for the world.  He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and ate with sinners.  He welcomed all into his presence, particularly those who were marginalized in society.  Our church believes we are called to love as God loves and serve others as if we were serving Jesus himself.  Mother Teresa said it well, “It is Christ you tend in the poor.  It is his wounds you bathe, his sores you clean, his limbs you bandage. See beyond appearances; hear the words Jesus pronounced long ago.  They are still operative today: What you do to the least of mine, you do it to me…”  We are honored to be part of the Body of Christ and are always seeking ways to further God’s kingdom here in the community of Jacksonville.  Below are some ways we are involved in living the Gospel in our community.

Mission 5000

Started in the early 2000s, this feeding program is a free meal open to the community.  All are welcome to come and eat.  We serve to go meals on Wednesdays at 5:30 pm and on Saturdays at 11:30 am in our Family Life Center. Come volunteer to serve with us!

Mission 5000 Marketplace

During COVID-19 the community of Jacksonville has needed a food pantry more than ever.  Mission 5000 is fulfilling this need. When getting hot meals on Wednesdays and Saturdays people of the community are able to get other staple items that are needed.  Donations of shelf stable food or monetary donations are always welcome.  From January 2020 until November 2020 Mission 5000 has given away more than 85,000 lbs of food to the community of Jacksonville. For more information on drop off times please contact the Church office at 501-982-8176.

MIA Sunday

Standing for “Methodists In Action,” this annual event is an opportunity for the entire congregation to be in service in the community.  This event usually happens one of the Sundays following Easter.  Rather than gathering for worship on the designated Sunday, the congregation disperses into the community to serve our neighbors. In the past, we have worked at our local schools, the Boys and Girls Club of Jacksonville, City Parks, and private homes painting, landscaping, and loving our community back to life.
